Inexpensive buzzer alternative...

If you have access to a laptop or desktop PC running Windows XP, and are looking for inexpensive buzzer systems, read on...

Longtime buzzer supplier, Shelty Systems (www.shelty.ca), offers a computer application, BuzzBox 2, free-of-charge, that will allow you to use game paddles used with BUZZ! Games (Playstation 3). The software provides an electronic lockout system and a simple scoreboard, suitable for Schoolreach practice and competition.

BUZZ! games such as BUZZ! Junior Jungle Party are usually bundled with a set of 4 game paddles and are readily available from retail outlets (Futureshop, HMV, BestBuy).

Each paddle has a big red button that lights up and four smaller coloured buttons. They connect to the SONY PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 game consoles via USB. The paddles are available, in wired (approx. $15) and wireless models (approx. $60), in sets of four.

Welcome to the Reach For The Top / Schoolreach Programme Website

Each year several hundred schools form their "Reach" Clubs and play off against each other at the league level, provincial level, and finally, the National level.

The Provincial and National finals in which these Schoolreach teams compete are taped as "Reach for the Top", the television show that started it all. In the classroom, it's the "Schoolreach Subscription Programme" of "Reach For The Top", established in 1985.
