Director's Summary for 2008-2009

By Paul Russell

It’s been a stellar year of “Reach” play, with hundreds of schools participating across the country. In the 2008-2009 “Reach” season we welcomed new subscriber schools in every region of the country.

There has been a significant change with regard to the television broadcasts of the Finals; this year saw the demise of C.L.T. as an educational network and as broadcaster of the Reach For The Top National Finals. We missed their involvement this year and we wish to thank the staff and crew in Edmonton for their support of Reach for the Top over the past nine years.

Check back to our website at www.reachforthetop.com during the coming year for updates from provincial co-coordinators on the play schedules in each province and the broadcast date of the Championship game. Please send photos and information on your “Reach” activities so that we can post them to the site.

Our thanks to the teacher-coaches in every province who fielded teams, arranged games, read questions, judged answers and generally made the Schoolreach tournament system work.

Thanks also to the provincial co-coordinators (see their reports on the following pages) who organized and ran the provincial finals and produced uniformly strong teams to represent each province at the Nationals; to the editorial board of “Reach”: Pat Beecham-Cooper, Jane Kay, Janet Nahabedian and Nicole Novakovics; and to the National Finals Series producer Daniel Hill; associate producers, Costa Kamateros, Richard Koo, Eric Novakovics and Frank Russell; technicians Glen Gummerson and Kwan Ho Tse, and production assistants Colleen O’Reilly and Vijaya Selvaraju.

Congratulations to everyone involved in Reach For The Top, for a year of successful games, and best wishes for a relaxing summer.
