News from Quebec

By Ivan Gombos, Quebec Provincial Co-ordinator

In this our seventh year of competition, we had two participating leagues, most ably co-ordinated by Claire Sergeant (Dawson College) and Sharon Peters (Lower Canada College). After a bit of a rocky start – our first general meeting had to be cancelled on account of a St. Valentine’s Day snowstorm – the Reach teams were eager to begin interschool games.

Although we did not increase the number of schools playing this year, the number of students interested in trying out for the various teams did increase – in one case, about thirty students were vying for the four to eight spots available.

Loyola High, Lower Canada College, Marianopolis College and Dawson College faced off in the final round for the Quebec Championship. After three fiercely-fought elimination rounds, Marianopolis emerged as this year’s Provincial Champion. Prizes were awarded for the first and Second Place teams.

Congratulations to the Champion Marianopolis College team members: William Robinson, Kelso Mallet, Andrew Kusek, Stephanie Zaleski and Coach: Jeffrey Freeman.
